Presentation Response, Self-Portrait Revision, & Installation Idea

Presentation Response:

The presentation on Ok Go was so fun. I had only seen “The One Moment” video before, so it was interesting to learn about the group and see more of their work. I love how most of their videos are done in one shot, but I can’t seem to wrap my mind around the amount of planning that goes into making them work (using math to make an experimental video??). One thing I did wonder after watching “Here It Goes Again” was if the group members have a dance background, because they really were quite coordinated and flexible on those treadmills. I guess it could be just the result of lots of practice, but I know I couldn’t do it, no matter how much I practiced!

Self-Portrait Revision:

My idea for my self-portrait didn’t change much after getting feedback in class, only now I know for sure that I want to use the imagery of the flower opening up. I still want my self-portrait to center around the idea of “revealing,” and I will use editing and different shot scales to emphasize the contrast between my “inner self” and my “outer self.” My soundscape is the only thing that is really still up in the air right now. I think I want to juxtapose some mellow clarinet sounds with synthetic, electronic sounds to create even more contrast, but I will have to just play with it and see what I think works best.

Installation Idea:

My group’s installation idea is to stage a feminist protest. During the actual performance, I will be standing “silenced” with my group members with tape over my mouth, and then we will be the ones to start the protest and get the audience involved. As far as preparation goes, I will contribute to finding footage of men on the news/in the media saying ignorant things about women’s anatomy and rights for our projection and editing it together. I will also be providing the projector and buying/creating other things we will need such as pots, pans, and buckets (to act as drums for our live music performance), pads, bras, and protest signs.
